Denver Nuggets PF Kenyon Martin had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The procedure was performed to remove “loose bodies” in the knee. The Denver Nuggets announced that Kenyon will be out indefinitely. The Rocky Mountain News reported that it is uncertain how long Kenyon will be out, but the recovery time for this kind of procedure is usually 2-4 weeks.

Side Note: From the “If-You-Care” file, Portland Trailblazers forward Darius Miles also had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will be out indefinitely as well.

Josh Howard will be out for two weeks because of a sprained left ankle. Howard was hurt in a game against the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. He will miss at least six games. Howard could be motivated to return to the lineup for the November 20 game against the Charlotte Bobcats, which will be played in his home state of North Carolina.

Steve Francis is day-to-day with a sprained ankle.  He hurt it when he landed on Bruce Bowen’s foot after taking a jump shot. Bruce Bowen is notorious for being a dirty player and has pulled this stunt before of not allowing the jump shooter to land after their shot.

Brandon Roy, the early favorite for Rookie of the Year, has been slowed by a heel injury. A precautionary MRI has revealed an impingement in the left heel but there was no major damage. Roy was given a cortisone shot to relieve the pain and will miss Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kevin Martin takes it to the rack!I have to admit, I was brainstorming and thinking of different ways to write an introductory paragraph about how the NBA was back, but for some reason I just couldn’t come up with anything.  I wrote out the ubiquitous Star Wars reference about Episode V, but didn’t want to appear too fanboyish the first time out.  Then Apocalypse Now hit my head with that whole “I love the smell of…,” but thought of the connotations and chucked that idea.  Then the Rodney Dangerfield classic, Back to School came to mind and how the NBA doesn’t get any respect, but didn’t want to go on a diatribe validating the League.

So, what am I saying?

I watch entirely too many movies, but I’m also way too excited about the NBA being back to think straight.  However, I’ll pop in Brad Pitt’s Meet Joe Black into the DVD player to bore me and calm my nerves enough to write this article.

(Ten minutes later; yeah, that quickly)

During the regular season, the aim of Stat’s All Folks will be to take a stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Here’s the preseason installment of Stat’s All Folks.  Jagshemash, NB and A!

I am stepping in for Dennis Velasco for this pick. Dennis mentioned that there was a lonely buffet table that he had to keep company. What a gentleman. How fitting that Dennis is maintaining his round figure as this article is a tribute to the Round Mound. As a fellow D.D. writer, you will find out quickly that Dennis has a strong admiration for Charles Barkley, the Round Mound of Rebound. It could be that Dennis could relate to elements of Barkley’s career to his own life. You know struggles with weight, outspoken, great at his craft and a team player. It is unfortunate that with all the undersized Charles Barkley had accomplished in the NBA, his legacy does not include a championship.  Dennis can empathize with Barkley because Dennis’s legacy will not include the Dropping Dimes’ Expert League championship.

To continue the Round Mound theme we move on to Zach Randolph. It is quite evident reviewing highlights and pictures of Zach, that he could have avoided that extra trip to the buffet table as well.  Despite being a little round, Zach can still help your fantasy team. Check out what Zach will bring to the table.

Dwight HowardHoly Dwight Howard, Batman!

The 10 boards are money in the bank.  However, the 27 points, three blocks and six assists definitely made me say, “whoa” when I checked out the box scores this morning.  Add center eligibility to this guy, and you should have yourself a top-15 player before it’s all said and done…

Brandon RoyRound 6, Pick 8: Brandon Roy, PG/SG, Portland Trailblazers
Roy is the first rookie taken in this draft blog and there’s good reason for it - Roy can do a lot of things well.  And I mean A LOT.  Of course, we only have his college play to judge Roy from… oh wait, I guess we have a tiny sample of seeing what Roy can do, right?  He did play in the Vegas Summer League, afterall.  And what exactly did Roy do at the VSL?  The exact same thing he did in college and that has to get fantasy owners excited.

Description>“This is 10% luck, 20% skill. 15% concentrated power of will. 5% pleasure, 50% pain, and 100% reason to remember the name.” Lyrics to “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor

Every drafted player strives to make a name for themselves. It takes concentrated effort and sacrifice; sometimes we see results right away. Other times a player is still trying to learn the ropes a couple of years into their career. In basketball, finding these young and rising stars just before they hit the big time is a vital edge in bringing home the fantasy glory. Welcome to the first edition of a new feature here on Dropping Dimes. In “3-2-1 Impact,” comparisons between a third year player, a second year player and a rookie are forged. Fantasy impact takes the spotlight. Hopefully by season’s end, your league mates will have all the reason to remember your name…because it will be engraved in gold on your trophy!

Adam Morrison Rookie of the Year I was chillin the other night watching Sportscentre (yeah that’s right the Canadian version!). I wasn’t quite sure if I liked the new sets with burgundy being the main colour of choice (ESPN influence no doubt). Leaf’s signing, Baseball, CFL, Tour de France and some basketball, pinteresting how Canadian’s prioritize their sport’s news?

It is strange seeing Tour de France highlights without Lance Armstrong. What about the Tour de France drug scandal before the race started this year? I digress. Look there Andrea Bargnani playing in Summer League basketball. Hmm, not bad. He is going to struggle the 1st half of the season but he may be a fantasy bench player to look at for the 2nd half. He’ll probably average 10 points, 5 rebs with a three and a block a game. Huh? Fantasy Basketball talk in July? Don’t they say that the 1st step to coming to grips with your addiction is admitting to it? Ok, no problem I can do this. I am a Fantasy Basketball Junkie! I feel better now.
